Lutz dates its history back to when William and Charley Lutz opened a small train depot. This station, which connected Brooksville, Tarpon Springs and other areas, was named Lutz Station or Lutz Junction. Today, there is a replica of that station in Lutz at the corner of Lutz Lake Fern Road and Highway 41. The surrounding area of the original station became officially known as Lutz when the United States issued a post office.
